Secretaría de Relaciones Exteriores | April 16, 2026 | Press Release

Eighth Legal Advisory Week for Mexicans in the U.S.
  • Minister Vanessa Calva, Director General of Consular Protection, and Ambassador Reyna Torres, head of the Mexican Consulate in Chicago, presided over the closing ceremony of the eighth annual Legal Advisory Week (SALE), held under the theme "Information is Protection."
  • Throughout the week, the consular network reinforced its role as a safe space to guide, support, and provide legal assistance regardless of immigration status.

The Foreign Ministry announces the successful conclusion of the 8th Legal Advisory Week (SALE), held April 6-10, during which Mexico's consular network in the United States launched a comprehensive preventive outreach strategy aimed at the Mexican community.

Participants received consultations to assess their situations and find pathways to address their legal needs, drawing on practical tools and key information from legal representatives and specialists across a range of areas, with particular emphasis on immigration issues, including status regularization and steps to clear minor infractions that could otherwise impede their path to legal status.

As part of the outreach efforts, in-person and virtual events were held, along with informational segments broadcast on local radio and television. At these forums, legal specialists offered free consultations, answered questions, and followed up on individual cases.

Throughout the week, participants were reminded of the importance of staying closely connected with their consulate to receive reliable information, guard against immigration fraud, and protect both their families and their assets.

Mexicans abroad were reminded that their consulate stands with them. They were encouraged to seek assistance and make use of the services available through the consular network in the United States.

At the closing ceremony, the providers participating in the Legal Assistance Program for Mexicans (PALE) were recognized for their collaboration, which is essential to expanding the reach of these services.

This year, the event had a significant impact on the Mexican community in the United States. Results reported to date include:

  • More than 787,000 people were served at 691 in-person and virtual events.
  • An average of 3,600 free legal consultations were given on immigration, labor, civil, and family law issues, among other areas.
  • 430 consular assistance cases were identified and referred.
  • Approximately 460 strategic partners contributed specialized attention and personalized support.

The Mexican Government, through the Foreign Ministry, reaffirms its commitment to protecting and defending the rights of Mexicans abroad, strengthening legal and preventive assistance programs and ensuring the Mexican community has the tools it needs to safeguard its dignity, security, and well-being.

These actions strengthen the preventive protection available for Mexicans in the United States, keep support within reach and build a secure channel for care through consular assistance and protection.

Through these efforts and collaboration with strategic partners and legal representatives, Mexico's consular network remains at the forefront, reaffirming the principles of consular assistance and protection through dignified, effective actions that meet the needs of Mexicans in the United States.
