Bellflower Advances Its First Urban Forest Master Plan to Guide Long-Term Tree Management

The City of Bellflower is developing its first Urban Forest Master Plan (UFMP), a comprehensive roadmap designed to guide sustainable tree management and support long-term community benefits. The plan aims to proactively care for and grow Bellflower's urban forest to enhance residents' quality of life.

The UFMP will establish a long-term vision for how the City manages and grows its forestry and green spaces. The plan is grounded in data-driven practices, including a citywide tree inventory, canopy assessments and a review of existing policies. This information will help identify future planting opportunities, appropriate species selection and strategies to protect long-term tree health.

Community input was a central component of the development of the UFMP. Residents had the chance to share feedback through surveys and public events. The City has encouraged broad participation to ensure that the UFMP reflects local priorities related to neighborhood beauty and long-term environmental resilience.

Key elements of the Urban Forest Master Plan include:

  • Long-term vision:A long-term roadmap for managing and expanding Bellflower's urban forest.
  • Data-driven planning: Tree inventories, canopy assessments and policy analysis to inform decision making.
  • Community-focused engagement: Surveys and community engagement events to gather resident perspectives and shape plan goals.
  • Community benefits: Improved air quality, reduced urban heat, enhanced stormwater management and public health benefits.

The UMFP will also address climate resilience by identifying strategies to cool neighborhoods, increase shade, support biodiversity and prepare the Bellflower's urban forest for future environmental challenges.

Bellflower is excited to work towards completing its first Urban Forest Master Plan and the many benefits it will bring to the community. As the City looks ahead to a greener future, updates and engagement opportunities will be shared on the City's website and through social media.
