A blessing to bring joy to people with a therapy dog

For patients and caregivers at Providence Medford Medical Center, a visit from Sadie can brighten even the toughest day. The 4-year-old miniature goldendoodle and her owner, Sherry McMahan, spend time throughout the hospital sharing comfort and plenty of smiles.
Sherry began training dogs after losing her husband 13 years ago. When she learned therapy dogs could support patients and caregivers, she knew she wanted to be involved.
Since then, she and Sadie have visited Providence Medford Medical Center regularly, offering companionship and a welcome distraction from the stresses of illness and hospital visits.
"It's a blessing to be able to share her [Sadie] and see people smile," Sherry says.

A local celebrity with special talents
Sadie has become well known throughout the hospital for her entertaining tricks. She can bow, walk on two feet and even use her famous "hospital voice."
"She made a noise and I said 'quiet, quiet,' and then I made a big deal about it," Sherry says.
For many patients, a few moments with Sadie can provide comfort and a reminder that they are not alone.
