Cartlann TG4 launched the showreel Súil Siar ar Scannáin Dobharchú 1992 - 2022 in Amharclann Ghaoth Dobhair on Thursday 20th August to commemorate the work of the television producer Máirín Seoighe who passed away in 2022.
For almost thirty years through her production company Scannáin Dobharchú, Máirín produced a vast range of acclaimed series and documentaries for TG4. These included the series Ceol Cois Locha, Ceol na nOileán, Flosc, Imircigh Ban and Labhair Linn as well as individual programmes such as Frankie, Clann as Dobhair, An Swilly, Mo Honda Beag Dearg and Mo High Nelly Álainn. In addition to the showreel, the programme Clann as Dobhair about world renowned group Clannad and highlights from Ceol Cois Locha which was filmed in Ionad Cois Locha in the 1990s was shown.
Her life, her work and personality were reminisced upon by Micheál Ó Meallaigh - former-Commissioning Director TG4, Sally Ní Dhuibhir - TV Producer, Sorcha Ní Mhonacháin - Nuacht TG4/RTÉ, Anna Ní Bhroin - University of Galway and Donnchadh Ó Baoill - Údarás na Gaeltachta. Caoimhe Ní Chonchoille - RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta oversaw the proceedings.
Máire Aoibhinn Ní Ógáin, Ceannasaí Cartlainne TG4 said:
"Máirín Seoighe and Scannáin Dobharchú made over 120 programmes for TG4 , music, documentary and topical chat shows. Her work gives us a great insight to contemporary Ireland over the past 30 years on issues of the day , sometimes on sensitive topics which were dealt with humanity, understanding and above all else with "joie de vivre"."
Mícheál Ó Meallaigh, ex-Commissioning Director TG4 said:
"Máirín Seoighe was a trailblazer who came up with eclectic ideas that catered to television audiences, audiences that she understood deeply, from delightful music series recorded among her own community, documentary series that showed in particular aspects of women's lives, in Ireland and abroad, to entertaining little once off documentary gems like Mo Honda 50 and Mo High Nelly Álainn. The likes of which were not seen on any other channel. Her work greatly contributed to the Súil Eile that was the goal of TnaG /TG4 from the beginning."
Séamus Mac Giolla Chomhaill siad:
"My family and I are indebted to Cartlann TG4 for their support in helping us to organise this event to celebrate Máirín's work over many years. We are very grateful also to Coiste Stiúrtha Amharclann Ghaoth Dobhair for all their help. Above all, we wish to express our heartfelt appreciation to the many people who attended the event and to all who were so generous in their support of Donegal Flights and Cancer Services."
The night ended with live music from An Crann Óg. A collection was made on the night for Donegal Cancer Flights Services.
