Northrop Grumman Teams with Commercial and Defense Companies to Offer Innovative Semiconductor Solutions

Northrop Grumman's Microelectronics Center is turning ideology into innovation through critical collaborations, which support the need for secure, application-tailored semiconductor solutions.

"The customers we serve demand timely, cost competitive and high-performance semiconductor solutions because their applications are among the most complex and critical to the infrastructure on Earth and in outer space," said Mike Barsky, director of external sales for the Microelectronics Center. "Whether it's in the skies, at sea, on land or in orbit, Northrop Grumman's microelectronics need to perform with unmatched reliability."

For decades, Northrop Grumman has provided semiconductor fabrication services, catalog products and access to next-generation technologies to commercial, government, research, academia and startup companies- supporting the nation's push for onshoring.

"Our partnerships across a variety of industries reflect not only our commitment to national needs, but also our dedication to getting our customers what they need, when they need it. For decades, we've provided disruptive and comprehensive microelectronics solutions for internal and commercial needs, and the impact is visible across every domain. Today, our business is growing exponentially," said Barsky.

Now, the rest of the nation can access these mission-tailored technologies as the company has opened access to the needs of the defense industry. Some of today's customers include:

  • Lockheed Martin: Producing low noise amplifiers and advanced packaging for defense systems
  • Jet Propulsion Lab: Producing climate science microelectronics and world-record holding Terahertz sensing technologies
  • Rohde & Schwarz: Offering foundry services like GaNtechnologies and next-generation products to enable test and measurement equipment
  • Nokia: Developing heterogenous integration for next-generation communication devices with Nokia Bell Labs

Northrop Grumman's Microelectronics Center is comprised of three manufacturing facilities-two U.S. government-accredited semiconductor foundries in California and Maryland, and a trusted wafer-bumping facility in Florida - with access to advanced packaging technologies in all three.

The teams work to design, manufacture, assemble, test and package millions of microelectronics annually to support next-generation defense and commercial systems in the United States, ensuring the American supply chain is protected and sustainable to strengthen national defense infrastructure. From design and fabrication, to field, the company's mission-tailored microelectronics serve as the crucial intelligence powering next-generation military and commercial systems and are foundational to mission success.

With nearly 100,000 employees and over 30 million square feet of manufacturing space - more than 500 football fields - Northrop Grumman has the capacity, scale, and agility to drive innovation at unprecedented speeds. The company's manufacturing approaches do more than just produce; they accelerate and enhance the entire process from design and development to production and testing. Northrop Grumman has invested in U.S. infrastructure, R&D, its workforce, and its supply chain to deliver today and tomorrow's national security needs.
