Marquette University will honor the 50th anniversary of the 1977 men's basketball national championship with a season-long, campus-wide celebration beginning this summer.
The 1976-77 Marquette men's basketball team beat North Carolina, 67-59, to win the national title under legendary head coach Al McGuire, who retired at the conclusion of the campaign. The team posted a record of 25-7 en route to the school's first and only national crown. The squad was ranked No. 7 in the nation in the final Associated Press rankings and defeated Cincinnati, Kansas State, Wake Forest and UNC Charlotte before meeting the Tar Heels.
The season-long celebration will be highlighted by a team reunion event and recognition around a weekend home game at Fiserv Forum during the Big East season. Initiatives honoring the championship include:
