Proclaiming February 2026 as National Career and Technical Education Month

February 27, 2026

For generations, America's strength has been shaped by innovators, builders, problem-solvers, and creators who combined skills and knowledge to power our economy and strengthen our communities. During National Career and Technical Education Month, we recognize this legacy and reaffirm our commitment to preparing learners and workers with the practical expertise needed to succeed in today's economy and lead in the Golden Age of America.

Career and Technical Education (CTE) opens opportunity for young people and demonstrates that academic and technical skills are integrally connected. CTE links earning and learning; equips students with academic, technical, and employability skills; and connects them directly to real-world careers in high-demand, high-skill, and high-wage occupations. From advanced manufacturing and healthcare to information technology and construction, CTE provides clear pathways to meaningful work, industry-recognized postsecondary credentials, and long-term economic mobility.

The Trump Administration is advancing a workforce agenda focused on expanding access to competency-based education, scaling registered apprenticeships, strengthening employer

partnerships, and aligning CTE and workforce development programs with labor market needs. Americans now have more options than ever to pursue career-focused learning through high schools, career and trade schools, community colleges, and registered apprenticeships. As historic investments accelerate innovation in science, technology, and emerging industries, our Nation's competitiveness depends on developing a workforce ready to meet evolving demands.

President Trump is prioritizing workforce readiness by expanding access to short-term training through Workforce Pell Grants and launching America's Talent Strategy: Building the Workforce for the Golden Age to strengthen coordination across education, workforce, and industry partners. The President has also advanced initiatives to promote artificial intelligence literacy to ensure young people understand the technologies reshaping the future of work.

Together, through our inter-agency partnership, the Departments of Education and Labor are strengthening CTE programs and increasing access to high-quality work-based learning for all Americans. We are investing in programs that deliver measurable results while supporting multiple pathways to credentials of value beyond traditional degree programs. These efforts reflect our shared commitment to building a skilled, adaptable workforce and creating opportunity in every community.

This month, we celebrate the CTE educators, employers, workforce professionals, and learners who are driving innovation and growth across the country. Their dedication fuels American competitiveness and strengthens the fabric of our Nation.

Therefore, we, the Secretary of Education and the Secretary of Labor, hereby proclaim February 2026 as National Career and Technical Education Month. While the month comes to an end, we encourage schools, businesses, community organizations, and families to recognize the importance and impact of CTE year round, and to continue to support pathways that connect learning with meaningful careers.
