Lincoln Police Investigate Domestic-Related Homicide | 2025

Published on October 23, 2025

UPDATE (October 27, 10 a.m.) | On Saturday, October 25, 40-year-old Joshua Meyers of Lincoln was released from the hospital and taken to the Lancaster County Jail for first-degree murder. At this time, we believe the death of 43-year-old Tracy Henman is another incident of domestic violence that ended in the worst possible way and our hearts go out to her family and loved ones.

During the investigation, it was determined this all began on the evening on Tuesday, October 21, more than 36 hours before police entered Tracy's home. The check welfare call was made after she didn't show up to work on Wednesday or Thursday. Currently, we do not believe anyone else was in the home besides Tracy and Josh from the time she died to the time officers went inside.

This is LPD's sixth homicide investigation of 2025 and the fourth domestic-related murder, the other three ending in murder-suicides. We also have rescued two women from nearly experiencing the same fate in just the last month. These women were mothers, daughters, sisters, aunts, partners, friends and colleagues. None of them deserved to lose their life at the hands of someone they loved.

Remember, violence is a choice made by the offender and it is never the victim's fault. Nothing justifies them being hurt, and no one should carry the blame for another person's actions.

This cannot continue. We must work together as a community to protect each other, educate about resources and hold those responsible accountable. Hear more from Lincoln Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird here.

UPDATE (October 24, 10:30 a.m.) | The Lincoln Police Department (LPD) is releasing the identity of the victim from Thursday's homicide. 43-year-old Tracy Henman of Lincoln was found deceased in her home on October 23 after officers entered the property during a check welfare call. Our condolences go out to the family and loved ones of Tracy.

The suspect, a 40-year-old Lincoln man known to Tracy, remains in the hospital with injuries. At this time, LPD is not releasing his name as he has not yet been booked in jail. Charges are pending and are subject to change based on the outcome of the autopsy and other factors. Once he is officially lodged, that information will be shared with the public. At this time, we do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the community.

While LPD has a man in custody, much more follow-up still needs to be done. Our Criminal Investigations Unit is working on a number of different elements of this case, including interviewing people who know the victim and the suspect, and reviewing evidence.

The Lincoln Police Department (LPD) is investigating an apparent homicide after a Lincoln woman was found deceased in her home.

On Thursday, October 23, around 8 a.m., LPD received a check welfare call from a relative who said they hadn't seen the woman for a couple days. Police met family members at the residence, 1635 Deweese Drive. When officers entered the property, they found a woman in her 40s and a man in his 40s inside.

The woman had injuries to her neck and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Her name is not being released at this time pending family notification. Our thoughts are with her loved ones as they grieve this tragic loss. An autopsy will be scheduled to determine cause, manner and time of death.

The man was taken into custody without incident and to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries to his face and neck.

At this time, the nature of the relationship between the two and whether the incident is domestic-related is part of the investigation. Officers will remain on scene for several hours as crime scene investigators process evidence and conduct interviews.

Anyone with information that could assist the investigation is asked to call our non-emergency number at 402-441-6000. If you would like to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 402-475-3600, report online at lincolncrimestoppers.com or download the free P3 app.

This is the sixth homicide investigation of 2025. Three of the previous five have been domestic-related murder-suicide incidents. There are resources available for survivors online: https://www.lincoln.ne.gov/City/Departments/Police/About-LPD/Transparency/Domestic-Violence
