PHILADELPHIA, June 9, 2026- Former American College of Physicians (ACP) President, Sandra A. Fryhofer, MD, MACP, was elected the American Medical Association (AMA) President-Elect at the AMA House of Delegates Annual Meeting in Chicago earlier today. Dr. Fryhofer will be AMA President-Elect 2026 to 2027 and will assume the role of AMA President the following year.
"Dr. Fryhofer has been a strong advocate for internal medicine, physicians, and our patients for years," said Jan K. Carney, MD, MPH, president, ACP. "With her background in public health, her work in vaccine advocacy, and her tenacity in speaking truth to power, she is exactly the leader that medicine needs now. ACP looks forward to working closely with her during her time in office."
Dr. Fryhofer is a board-certified doctor of internal medicine in Atlanta. She was the 2000 to 2001 ACP President, the second woman to be elected ACP President and the youngest president. In 2018, she was elected to the AMA's Board of Trustees and she currently serves at the AMA's liaison to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices. Prior to joining the Board of Trustees, Dr. Fryhofer was a member of ACP's delegation to the AMA from 1999 to 2018.
