Army Releases Findings from Administrative Investigation into January 29, 2025, Midair Collision

The U.S. Army honors the memory of the lives lost in the tragic midair collision on January 29, 2025. The U.S. Army extends its deepest condolences to the families, friends, and loved ones carrying the unimaginable weight of that loss. We are fully committed to ensuring that no other family ever has to endure a tragedy like this.

To honor that commitment, the U.S. Army seeks to be transparent on our progress in ensuring aviation safety. In the immediate aftermath of the collision, the U.S. Army implemented time sensitive changes to aviation safety while the investigation was ongoing. The U.S. Army also immediately implemented risk controls and advanced longer-term reforms addressing airworthiness, altitude awareness, Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) reliability, cockpit traffic-awareness training, command oversight, emergency preparedness, safety reporting, and civil-military coordination.

This investigation does not replace or supersede the independent investigation of the National Transportation Safety Board. This administrative investigation examines the midair collision and makes recommendations for changes the U.S. Army should make to its own aviation policies.

Some recommended actions are complete; others remain underway. The U.S. Army will not waver in our dedication to aviation safety, and we will continue to share our progress transparently as we continue to verify implementation of the investigation's recommendations.
