Ben Hill County...
New Tulip Road bridge over Young Creek is open
What: The new Tulip Road bridge over Young Creek opened today, ending the detour for non-local traffic that was implemented when construction started earlier this year. The previous bridge was built in 1955. Replacement was through the Georgia Department of Transportation's Low Impact Bridge Program. The LIBP helps local governments replace old or structurally deficient bridges. These are simple bridge replacement projects that utilize prefabricated bridge components, such as box beams, and off-site detours, which allows for faster completion at a lower cost. The construction contract is approximately $1.6 million.

Where: Tulip Road bridge over Young Creek, about three miles northeast of Rebecca in Ben Hill County.

When: Construction and detour began in March and the new bridge opened today.
