Beginning Monday, Jan. 26, the City of Reno will start construction on the Riverside Drive Berm Project. The project will raise and stabilize the berm and sidewalk along the north bank of the Truckee River between Booth Street and Lundsford Park to meet the required 14,000 cubic-feet-per-second flood-capacity standards.
The project will also replace the existing five-foot sidewalk with a new 10-foot accessible pathway and install riprap to protect the riverbank from erosion. This is the first phase of planned flood-protection improvements along the Truckee River.
Construction is expected to be completed by spring 2026. All trees surrounding the project will be protected during the construction.
To safely complete this work, the south-side walking path along Riverside Drive will be closed for approximately three months, from Booth Street to Ralston Street. Pedestrians will be detoured to the north side of Riverside Drive. Intermittent traffic control is also expected throughout construction.
The construction costs of $1,398,933 is funded by the Truckee River Flood Management Authority (TRFMA) through an Interlocal Funding Agreement approved by Reno City Council in July 2025. Design funding is provided by the Carson-Truckee Water Conservancy District (CTWCD). Construction will be managed by the City of Reno.
