ICYMI: Booker Stands with Cancer Survivors and MAHA Activists in Fight Against Pesticide Manufacturers at Supreme Court Rally

WASHINGTON D.C - In case you missed it, U.S. Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ), a member of the Senate Agriculture Committee, oined cancer survivors and Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) activists for a rally held at the U.S. Supreme Court on Monday, vowing to remain a relentless ally in their fight to hold corporations accountable for manufacturing products containing glyphosate, a pesticide that has given thousands of people who used Bayer's RoundUp, cancer.

In February, President Donald J. Trump issued an executive order boosting the domestic production of glyphosate, siding with manufacturers over cancer survivors with pending litigation against the chemical manufacturer, Monsanto. In contrast, last month, Booker filed an amicus brief with the court backing cancer patients in a case that could determine whether thousands of lawsuits over the weedkiller Roundup can proceed. As the Supreme Court heard oral arguments in the case, Booker called on survivors and activists at the rally to never give up and to continue their fight for a healthier and more just America.

  • Booker: "I tell you, this movement is not one of hate. It has got to be one fueled by the love that farmers have for their soil, the love that parents have for their children, the love that neighbors have for their neighbors who are suffering from preventable cancers. This has got to be a movement that grows, does not divide, but multiplies."

  • Booker: "Today's fight in the Supreme Court is one battle, one big battle in a larger war in this country to take back our food system for our people."
  • Booker: "This is an issue that belies the failed politics of our present and calls our country to a greater moral imagination."

  • Views on pesticides have also forged unusual - if tenuous - political alliances. Speakers at the rally on Monday included Republican Rep. Thomas Massie and Democratic Sen. Cory Booker, MAHA supporters, and environmentalists.
  • Vani Hari (MAHA activist): "You cannot make America healthy again and protect the corporations that are poisoning us."

  • Kelly Ryerson (MAHA Activist): "MAHA came to vote, many people came to vote for MAHA, because of pesticides, because of the promise that was made that we were going to address the effects of pesticides on the human body."
  • A Reuters poll conducted this month indicated that most Americans are concerned about pesticide use in food crops and oppose protecting companies from lawsuits when they sell cancer-causing products, even if the company warns about the risk.

MAHA's Perfect Villain

  • Senator Cory Booker, a surprise guest speaker and potential 2028 presidential candidate, told the crowd, "This is a right or wrong issue." If Democrats have balked at MAHA's rejection of vaccines, battling glyphosate has a chance of locking in the movement's wider base of support.
