The Times Wins Two Loeb Awards

We are excited to announce that The Times won two Loeb Awards for distinguished business and financial journalism, one of our craft's highest honors. We had an impressive seven other finalists.

In all, the winners and finalists represented a broad range of desks in the newsroom, including Business, International, Graphics, Culture, Climate, Washington, Video and The New York Times Magazine.

"Hearing our work cited time after time was a lovely reminder of all the great work we did last year - and that you continue to do every day," said Ellen Pollock, who recently stepped down as Business editor.

Eric Lipton, David Yaffe-Bellany, Cecilia Kang, Tripp Mickle and the staff of The Times were honored in the investigative category for a series of stories that exposed how President Trump has extracted financial gains from his presidency and helped his friends along the way.

Ana Swanson, Tony Romm, Patti Cohen and the Times staff won in the breaking news category for their rapid, distinctive and analytical coverage of Mr. Trump's so-called Liberation Day tariffs.

In addition to our winners, Times journalists were also named as finalists in multiple categories:

  • Investigative: John Koblin, Michael Grynbaum, Brooks Barnes, Ben Mullin, Stuart Thompson, Jim Rutenberg and Jim Poniewozik, for their coverage when Jimmy Kimmel's late-night show was abruptly taken off air.
  • Explanatory: Kashmir Hill, for describing how sophisticated chatbots supercharged the psychological hazards of our attachment to A.I.
  • Beat Reporting: David Yaffe-Bellany, for his coverage of the crypto industry.
  • Personal Finance: Ron Lieber, for pieces about the complicated costs of college.
  • Commentary: Li Yuan, for her column, The New New World.
  • International: Keith Bradsher, Brad Plumer, Somini Sengupta, David Gelles and Harry Stevens, for Power Moves, a series of stories about China's drive to win the clean energy race.
  • Visual: Mark Boyer, Agnes Chang, Keith Collins, Laz Gamio, Sarah Kerr, Isabelle Qian, Pablo Robles, Tony Romm, Ana Swanson and Dai Wakabayashi, for a collection of graphics-driven, video and other multimedia stories about President Trump's trade war.

Congratulations to the winners and finalists!
