CHICAGO - The American Medical Association (AMA), the nation's largest physician organization, today announced the election of Chicago-based anesthesiologist Tripti C. Kataria, MD, MPH, MBA, to its Board of Trustees.
"Medicine is at an inflection point, and I am honored to be elected to the AMA Board of Trustees," said Dr. Kataria. "I look forward to working alongside my colleagues to ensure physicians remain at the forefront of healthcare leadership, advocate for physician payment that reflects economic realities, address the burden of medical education debt, and preserve a practice environment that is sustainable, independent, and rewarding. The future of medicine should be shaped by physicians, and I am committed to helping lead that effort."
Dr. Kataria brings more than 25 years of leadership experience in organized medicine at both the state and national levels. She currently serves as president of the Illinois State Medical Society, and as chair of the AMA Council on Legislation. She previously served as president of the Illinois Society of Anesthesiologists and is past vice-chair of the AMA Anesthesiology Section Council.
Dr. Kataria is a board-certified anesthesiologist in private practice in the Chicago area and also serves as manager of physician advisory solutions at R1 RCM, a leading provider of technology-enabled revenue cycle management services across hospitals, health systems, and physician groups. Prior to joining R1 RCM, she was the medical director of anesthesiology at Holy Cross Hospital and an assistant professor of anesthesiology at the University of Chicago Medical Center.
Dr. Kataria earned her medical degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine, completed her medical residency in anesthesiology at the Harvard Medical School Brigham and Women's Hospital, and completed a fellowship in cardiothoracic anesthesiology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.
