POLK CITY, Fla.-Senator Ashley Moody is in Central Florida today meeting with local farmers affected by the recent catastrophic deep freeze. Earlier in the month, Florida experienced a major cold weather event, bringing sub-freezing temperatures for a prolonged period of time, affecting Florida farms and crops. Senator Moody toured Florida farms to see the damage firsthand and hear what is needed from Florida farmers to recover.
Senator Ashley Moody said, "This historic freeze damaged crops from Pensacola to South Florida, and when our farms are hurt, we all feel the pain. That is why I am meeting with Floridia farmers affected by this agricultural disaster-to see the destruction firsthand and discuss ways to support recovery. Our farmers are some of the most resilient and hardworking individuals around and have shown remarkable dedication and care working at all hours to protect their crops. I will continue to fight for this vital industry responsible for feeding Americans and supporting Florida families."
Senator Moody recently urged Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins to enact a federal disaster declaration, in support of Florida Agriculture Commissioner Wilton Simpson's request. See letter here.
