More information now needed with your bank details

Veterans' Affairs staff may now ask you for more proof of your bank account. We are doing this to meet the obligations of the Anti-Money Laundering and Countering Financing of Terrorism Act 2009.

The Anti-Money Laundering and Countering Financing of Terrorism Act 2009 requires us to take more measures to verify bank details than we previously did. They aim to help prevent fraud, money laundering, and other financial crime.

The new requirement is that in addition to your bank account number we need one of the following:

  • a bank statement,
  • or a letter issued within the last six months that includes the bank's letterhead and
stamp and the account holder's name and account number,
  • or a screenshot of a banking app or website that shows the account holder's name,
bank name or logo, and bank account number.

If we already have these details, you won't be asked for them again, but if you have submitted a claim recently we may contact you to request this additional bank information.
