Pedestrian Fatally Injured on I-24 West

The pedestrian fatally injured in Thursday's 5:50 p.m. multi-vehicle collision on I-24 West near mile marker 42.8 is tentatively identified as a 72-year-old Hopkinsville, Kentucky man.

The preliminary investigation indicates that the man was a passenger in an older model Chevrolet Impala that had stopped on the right shoulder of I-24 West with two flat tires. He got out of the vehicle and was walking on the Interstate, attempting to locate a mile marker to give the location to a wrecker service, when the call abruptly ended.

The driver of the Chevrolet Impala reported seeing motorists brake, get out of their vehicles, and then drive off. No drivers remained at the scene. There was one driver who called in to report that they thought they had struck a deer. Crash Investigators have been in contact with him and do not believe that he was driving the initial vehicle that struck the pedestrian.

Anyone who believes that they may have witnessed or been involved in yesterday's fatal crash is asked to contact the Traffic Division at 615-862-7738.
