Pullman State Historic Site in Chicago to offer rare tours in October

SPRINGFIELD - The Illinois Department of Natural Resources will offer several opportunities for visitors to explore historic buildings and learn more about ongoing restoration efforts at the Pullman State Historic Site in Chicago throughout October.

As part of the annual Pullman House Tour, the Hotel Florence will be open to the public for free guided tours from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10. Visitors will learn about the workers who lived and labored at the Hotel Florence during the late 1800s and get to view the hotel's first floor before comprehensive restoration work begins.


Tours of the Hotel Florence are limited to 20 people per group. The tours will be offered every 30 minutes, beginning at 11 a.m., with the final tour departing at 4:30 p.m.

The Rear Erecting Shops will also be open for guided tours from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17 and Sunday, Oct. 18 as part of Open House Chicago . Visitors will wear hard hats while learning about the history of the building and current restoration efforts.

The Pullman State Historic Site is at 610 E. 111th St. in Chicago. The grounds are open daily from dawn to dusk. Free guided tours of the Hotel Florence are also available at 2 p.m. Thursdays. For additional information, call 773-660-2341.
