UWF Dr. Grier Williams School of Music presents the Symphonic Band in concert

The University of West Florida Dr. Grier Williams School of Music will present the Symphonic Band in their "A 20th Century Celebration" concert. The performance will be held on Sunday, Oct. 19, at 2:00 p.m. at Gulf Breeze United Methodist Church.

Under the direction of Dr. Sean Kelley, the ensemble will present "A 20th Century Celebration" featuring wind band masterworks written between 1900 and 2000. The program includes the energetic and effervescent set of variations on Beethoven's "Ode to Joy" entitled "Fantasia in G" by Timothy Mahr, followed by Frank Ticheli's quirky and pointillistic tone poem, "Postcard to Meadville, PA." Next, Howard Hansen's mid-century "Chorale and Alleluia" mixes classicism of form with modernity in harmonic language, and Ron Nelson's "Courtly Airs and Dances" is a charming, fresh take on Medieval, Renaissance and Baroque styles and forms. Closing the concert will be selections from Percy Grainger's magnum opus, "Lincolnshire Posy," which celebrates the history and cultural importance of Britain's cherished folk song tradition.

This performance will not be held at the University of West Florida. This performance will be held at 75 Fairpoint Dr, Gulf Breeze, FL 32561. This event is free and open to the public; no tickets are required.
