Shutdown likely to continue into fifth week

There is still no clear end in sight to the government shutdown as today marks day 30 and is approaching the 35-day record that occurred in 2018-2019. Some senators this week have publicly acknowledged that bipartisan conversations have begun amid concerns of missed paychecks and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits. The House-passed continuing resolution to fund the government has now failed 13 times to reach the 60 votes required to pass. The House remains out of session with no plans to return. The AHA will continue to monitor the situation and provide additional updates as information becomes available.
