Meeting with the President of the Lebanese Republic

The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, met with the President of the Lebanese Republic, Joseph Aoun, in Taranto today, in the margins of the opening ceremony of the 20th Mediterranean Games.

During the meeting, the two leaders discussed the situation in Lebanon, the progress of negotiations with Israel and the scenarios linked to the gradual withdrawal of UNIFIL, set to take place over the course of 2027.

President Meloni reiterated Italy's support for Lebanon's sovereignty and territorial integrity and for the efforts to reach a just and lasting peace with Israel, confirming the willingness to host further negotiation sessions between the two nations in Italy.
