BOZEMAN - Montana State University and the city of Bozeman will collect unwanted bulky items free of charge with the annual Don't Curb Your Crap program.
From April 20 to May 31, the city's Solid Waste Division will waive its fee for bulky item pickups for MSU students and spring graduates. Pickups of couches, desks and mattresses normally cost $20 per item.
To arrange a pickup, students must fill out a form on the city's website to confirm their student status, provide a description of their item and list its location.
"We're always excited to partner with each other to bring this program to the student community; Don't Curb Your Crap is a wonderful example of the positive effects of campus and city partnerships and the good they can bring to our communities," said Rebecca Eberlin, program manager for Off-Campus Student Life. "It also keeps our curbs free of clutter in the spring, which is always a plus."
Don't Curb Your Crap began in 2019 as a partnership between the Office of the Dean of Students, the Associated Students of MSU, the city's Neighborhoods Program and the city's Solid Waste Division.
"We've had over 800 students arrange for bulky item pickup since the start of this program. That's hundreds of couches, desks, mattresses and other items each year that are getting disposed of quickly and properly, rather than staying outside where it can be a hazard," said Emily Kiely, community engagement coordinator at the city of Bozeman. "We're excited to help students and neighborhoods through this program."
