New Report: Trump’s War is Driving Up Diesel Prices for Colorado Farmers

On average, CO farmers have spent $1,680 more in 2026 to fill up their fuel tanks than last year

WASHINGTON - As President Trump's war with Iran continues to escalate, Colorado farmers are paying the price at the pump. According to a new report by the Joint Economic Committee Minority, Colorado farmers have spent significantly more on diesel compared to last year, including:

• $1,680 more to fill up their onsite fuel tank - a common way that farmers buy and store diesel fuel - compared to the same high point during the 2025 planting season.
  
  
• $224 more to fill up a typical grain truck.
  
  
• $273 more to fill up a typical tractor.

"President Trump's war with Iran is driving up costs for Colorado farmers, on top of the damage already caused by his disastrous tariffs," said Hickenlooper. "Sky high diesel and fertilizer prices don't just hurt producers, they drive up grocery bills for every family. We need to end this illegal war, roll back these tariffs, and get back to lowering costs for Coloradans."

Hickenlooper has consistently voted to end Trump's highly unpopular and illegal war with Iran. He's called out skyrocketing gas prices and costly impacts on farmers' bottom lines. Hickenlooper has spoken multiple times on the Senate floor condemning Trump for sidestepping Congress and dragging America into a war that's driving Americans' cost of living through the roof.

He's also met with farmers across the state who are getting crushed by increasing prices fueled by the war. A farmer on the Western Slope recently told him about how the spiking costs of fertilizer and extreme drought make him wary of continuing to farm at all.
