Engineering second in state, top 20% in U.S. for undergrad-only programs

Campbell University's School of Engineering ranked second in North Carolina and in the Top 20 percent nationally for undergraduate-only engineering programs, according to U.S. News & World Report's latest rankings, released this week.

Campbell's school ranked 55th nationally out of 306 ABET-accredited engineering programs that do not offer a doctorate degree. The rankings are based on peer assessment surveys of deans and senior faculty from across the country.

The School of Engineering, which held its inaugural class in 2016, has grown to become one of the most inclusive programs in the nation, recognized nationally for its hands-on curriculum. Founding Dean Dr. Jenna Carpenter said the rankings reflect the school's national reputation for innovation and graduating industry-ready engineers.

"Our hands-on/project-based approach, successful national competition teams, the national leadership roles held by our faculty, the reputation of our graduates in both the workplace and graduate programs, and our success in securing federal funding for our unique educational approaches have all contributed to our success," Carpenter said.

She called the rankings "great confirmation" of the school's success in its first 10 years. This week's news comes on the heels of a 41-percent growth in freshman and new student enrollment (from 65 to 92) from the previous year.

"We hope it will help spread the word about our program and help us attract more great students," she said.
