Greece, Iceland, Guatemala, El Salvador. These are just a few of the remote locations available for Southern Illinois University Edwardsville's faculty-led travel study program. Locations such as Mexico City for sociology research and Peru for a course titled Honors, Business and International Studies are a sample of the opportunities SIUE's faculty experts have on the 2026 schedule.

Johanna Schmitz, PhD, professor of Theatre History in SIUE's Department of Theater and Dance, will lead the 20-day London: History, Art and Architecture (THEA 490) course that also has an online component. Students will travel to see the city's rich cultural resources and tours of site-specific studies of history, art and architecture at The Tower, St Paul's, Westminster, Hampstead Heath, Greenwich and more along with plenty behind-the-scenes excursions.

"London offers rich resources and special experiences that are impossible to replicate for students on campus," said Schmitz. "In London, students will hear languages from all over the world, explore World Heritage sites, see artefacts from ancient history as well as in current popular culture, and they immerse themselves in the daily rhythms of this vibrant metropolis. All of London is our classroom. Students will return to campus with a new-found confidence in their academic studies and professional ambitions."

The deadline for the first deposit of the London trip has been extended to Jan. 15, 2026.

As with most of SIUE's travel study programs, all majors are welcome.
