The Tenth Joint SCO-UN Anti-Drug Event takes place in Vienna
On March 11, 2026, in Vienna, Austria, on the sidelines of the 69th session of the UN Commission on Narcotic Drugs, the tenth high-level event was held on the theme "UN and SCO: Development of Regional and National Early Warning Systems (EWS) for New Synthetic Drugs and New Psychoactive Substances (NPS)". The organizers of the event are the SCO Secretariat, the Kyrgyz Republic as the Chair in the SCO this year, and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).
Heads of anti-drug agencies and foreign policy bodies of the SCO member states, leadership of UNODC and partner regional organizations, as well as high-ranking representatives from SCO observer states and dialogue partners took part in the event.

The participants analyzed the measures being taken within the framework of the SCO's three-level interaction mechanism to counter the drug threat, particularly noting the significance of the signing on September 1, 2025, by the SCO Council of Heads of State of the Agreement on the Establishment of the SCO Anti-Drug Center in Dushanbe as a separate permanent body. The delegates presented national approaches to the development of early warning systems for emerging synthetic drugs and new psychoactive substances.
A Memorandum of Understanding between the SCO Secretariat and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime was signed in Astana on June 14, 2011.
