Foster Sidekicks

Born out of our first Foster Fest, Foster Sidekicks is a new option to encourage new fosters that aren't quite ready to fully commit to fostering to get their foot in the door by becoming foster sitters - aka Foster Sidekicks!

The idea is that every foster needs a sidekick, someone who can step in when a foster family travels, gets sick, has an emergency, or just needs a weekend away. By providing temporary care for a few days, Foster Sidekicks help foster families continue saying "yes" to more animals.

It's also a great option for someone who's never fostered before. They can gain experience and build confidence without feeling like they're making a long-term commitment, all while supporting another foster family.

One Foster Sidekick can help several foster families throughout the year. Even if they only provide temporary coverage a few times, they're making a huge impact by helping those foster families continue saving lives.

We regularly post Foster Sidekick opportunities in the DAS Foster Facebook Group, so it's an easy way for people to jump in when they're available.

At Foster Fest, one attendee signed up to become a Foster Sidekick and has already welcomed their first foster dog while her foster mom was on vacation!

If you'd like more information or know someone that would like to wade into fostering as a Foster Sidekick, email [email protected]!

Avoid Adopets Donations

Due to complications with the Adopets platform, please remember to advise adopters to NOT donate through the platform when going through the adoption steps.

If the adopter would like to donate, please have them use the kiosks in person at DAS or donate online at https://bedallas90.org/donate/.
