WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA), chair of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, led 14 Republican senators nominating Charlie Kirk to be included in the National Garden of American Heroes for his historic contributions to the nation and American democracy.
The Garden of American Heroes is a sculpture garden proposed by President Trump in his first term to honor "great figures of America's history." It's set to open in July 2026 in celebration of the 250th Anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.
"Through his work, [Charlie] has inspired countless young Americans to engage in civic life and to appreciate the responsibilities of citizenship," wrote the senators. "His efforts highlight the enduring importance of free expression, active participation, and leadership in strengthening our democracy."
"The inclusion of Mr. Kirk in the National Garden would not only honor his personal achievements but would also underscore the vital role that civic engagement plays in our national heritage," continued the senators.
"My husband's life was so incredible. Charlie forever changed the direction of this country, and he made it better place for our children, young people, and families. Charlie's legacy will be felt for generations to come," said Erika Kirk, CEO & Board Chair, Turning Point USA. "My husband was a modern American Founding Father, and he deserves every honor and accolade this nation can bestow on him. I am grateful to Senator Cassidy and the 14 other senators who have nominated Charlie for this tremendous honor."
"We are honored to see Charlie Kirk proposed for such a prestigious and enduring monument to American patriots. We thank Senator Cassidy for his bold thinking and strong leadership, as well as the 14 U.S. Senators who joined him in advancing this noble cause to the President, who himself hailed Charlie as an 'Evangelist for American liberty,'" said Mark Schoeppel, Director of Recruitment & Outreach, Turning Point USA Chapter at Louisiana State University.
Cassidy is joined by U.S. Senators Tommy Tuberville (R-AL), Mike Lee (R-UT), Roger Marshall (R-KS), Katie Britt (R-AL), John Cornyn (R-TX), Bill Hagerty (R-TN), James Lankford (R-OK), Ted Budd (R-NC), Cynthia Lummis (R-WY), Pete Ricketts (R-NE), Josh Hawley (R-MO), Ted Cruz (R-TX), Bernie Moreno (R-OH), and Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-MS) in supporting this nomination.
