TLC2026 keynote announcement and proposal workshop

Dear colleagues and students

The Centre for Innovation in Learning and Teaching (CILT) is delighted to announce that Professor Phillip Dawson, Co-Director of the Centre for Research in Assessment and Digital Learning at Deakin University, will deliver the 2026 UCT Teaching and Learning Conference (TLC2026) keynote address.

Professor Dawson is a leading voice on assessment security and integrity in the age of AI, and one of the leaders of Assessment Reform for a Time of Artificial Intelligence, a major Australian national project. His keynote will explore how assessment must evolve as AI becomes ever more capable. He is the author of Defending Assessment Security in a Digital World (Routledge, 2021).

Co-hosted by the Centre for Higher Education Development (CHED) and the UCT AI Initiative, TLC2026 is scheduled to take place from 17-18 November 2026 and will be preceded by workshops on 16 November.

This year's theme is Connection, Reconfigured: Reimagining teaching and learning with artificial intelligence. TLC2026 aims to build capacity, connect stakeholders in the education project, and promote critical reflection and questioning as higher education is reconfigured and reimagined in the age of AI.

Workshop: Thinking through / refining your conference proposal

This workshop provides an opportunity to think through how your practice connects to the TLC2026 themes, whatever your stance on AI.

When: Wednesday, 29 July 2026

Time: 13:00-14:00

Format: Online via MS Teams

The workshop will explore what "connection" means beyond human-AI interaction, how AI shapes (or is resisted in) teaching and assessment decisions, and how to bring in diverse and sceptical voices.

Bring an idea, however rough, and leave with a clearer plan to submit before the 31 August 2026 deadline.

Please contact the for any further enquiries.

Sincerely

The Centre for Innovation in Learning and Teaching
