PUEBLO - Colorado Democrats returned to Pueblo Sunday with a clear message: Southern Colorado will help decide the future of the state, and the party is organizing here to win in November.
DemZest, held at the Pueblo Union Depot, brought statewide candidates, U.S. Reps. Joe Neguse and Jason Crow, local candidates and supporters together on the fourth day of the "Our Future. Our Colorado." statewide bus tour. The free event gave voters a chance to hear directly from the people asking for their support and find ways to help elect Democrats across the ballot.
The event marked CDP's return to Pueblo after holding its State Assembly there this spring. At a chili cookoff featuring entries from local candidates, supporters caught up with familiar faces, met candidates and prepared for the final weeks of voter outreach.
"Pueblo knows how to fight for their community, and we're glad to be back as we keep our promise to show up in southern Colorado," Colorado Democratic Party Chair Shad Murib said. "We want everyone leaving DemZest to have a plan to vote and to help a friend turn in a ballot. That's how we turn our work into wins in November."
The statewide candidates joining the tour are U.S. Sen. John Hickenlooper; Attorney General Phil Weiser, the Democratic nominee for governor; Secretary of State Jena Griswold, the Democratic nominee for attorney general; state Sen. Jeff Bridges, the Democratic nominee for state treasurer; and Jefferson County Clerk and Recorder Amanda Gonzalez, the Democratic nominee for secretary of state.
"Southern Colorado deserves better than the president's broken agenda that's increased prices, cut healthcare access, and targeted Colorado's clean drinking water," U.S. Senator John Hickenlooper said. "Great to see so many folks in Pueblo ready to stop Trump and send his rubber-stamps in Congress packing."
"Southern Colorado deserves a governor who listens and follows through," Attorney General and Democratic nominee for governor Phil Weiser said. "I want families here to be able to afford a home and build a good life here. That means fighting for our kids, standing up against irresponsible companies, and working together to build a better future."
"Working families deserve an attorney general who will take on the people making their lives harder," Secretary of State and Democratic nominee for attorney general Jena Griswold said. "I'll fight to protect consumers and defend our rights. I'm asking Southern Colorado voters to help us get that work done."
"Colorado has a cost of living crisis," State Senator and Democratic nominee for state treasurer Jeff Bridges said. "I'll invest Colorado's dollars here in Colorado to make homes affordable for working families, lower utility bills, and build the infrastructure we need for a thriving economy."
"A lot of people turn to someone they trust when they have a question about voting," Jefferson County Clerk and Recorder and Democratic nominee for secretary of state Amanda Gonzalez said. "You can be that person for a friend or neighbor. Help them find reliable information and make sure they have a plan to cast their ballot."
"The people who volunteer their time are what make these campaigns possible," U.S. Representative Joe Neguse said. "Every conversation is a chance to bring someone into the work. I'm grateful to the Southern Colorado organizers who keep making those connections."
"Coloradans are standing up, speaking out, and mobilizing to take back our democracy. That's exactly what we saw in Pueblo," U.S. Representative Jason Crow said. "Together, we're going to build something new that answers to working class Coloradans everywhere."
DemZest took place on the fourth day of CDP's six-day statewide bus tour. The tour concludes Oct. 20, with local parties and campaign teams continuing voter outreach through the election.
