The largest number of overnight stays so far
In August, tourist accommodation establishments recorded almost 1.3 million arrivals and almost 3.5 million overnight stays, both 6% more year-on-year. The number of overnight stays was the largest so far. The average length of stay was 2.8 nights.

Fewer domestic and more foreign tourists than a year ago
In August, domestic tourists generated 17% of all overnight stays in accommodation establishments. There were almost 170,000 arrivals, 4% fewer than a year earlier, and almost 591,000 overnight stays, 2% fewer. Domestic tourists spent the largest number of nights in municipalities Piran, Izola and Ankaran - almost 165,000. The average length of stay was 3.5 nights.
Foreign tourists generated more than 1.1 million arrivals and more than 2.9 million overnight stays, both 8% more. They generated 83% of all tourist overnight stays and again spent the largest number of their nights in municipality Ljubljana, followed by Piran and Bled. In these three municipalities they generated almost a third of all their overnight stays. The average length of stay was 2.6 nights.
Tourists from Germany generated more than half a million overnight stays
Tourists from Germany were first in terms of the number of nights spent in Slovenia. They generated more than 540,000 or 19% of all foreign overnight stays, which was 6% more than in August last year. They spent the largest number of nights in municipalities Bovec, Ljubljana and Radovljica.
Second placed were tourists from Italy with more than 281,000 overnight stays or 9% more than the year before. They generated a tenth of all foreign overnight stays, the largest number in municipalities Ljubljana, Piran and Kranjska Gora.
They were followed by tourists from the Netherlands, who generated 235,000 (7% fewer than a year earlier), the largest number of them in Radovljica, Brežice and Bovec.
Tourists from Czechia generated 215,000 overnight stays, which was 11% more than in August last year. They spent the largest number of nights in municipalities Ljubljana, Piran and Kranjska Gora.
The largest growth again in mountain resorts
The largest number of tourist overnight stays in August was recorded in mountain resorts (39% of all overnight stays). With 19% of all overnight stays seaside resorts ranked second. They were followed by health (spa) resorts (14%) and Ljubljana (12%).
The most visited municipality was Ljubljana with almost 432,000 overnight stays. Foreign tourists generated 98% of all overnight stays. The capital was the most visited among foreign tourists. The largest number of tourists came from Italy, Germany and France.
Piran was second, with almost 364,000 overnight stays. It was the most popular destination for domestic tourists, who generated almost a quarter of all stays there. Tourists from Hungary, Germany and Austria followed.
Bled was third, recording almost 236,000 overnight stays in total, with foreign tourists generating 99% of them. The largest numbers of these guests came from Germany, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands.
Fourth, fifth and sixth were municipalities Bohinj, Kranjska Gora and Radovljica.
Almost the same share of overnight stays in hotels and in private accommodations - rented rooms and dwellings
Tourists generated the largest number of overnight stays in hotels (30% of all) with more than a million overnight stays, where the number went up by 4% compared with a year earlier. Domestic tourists generated the largest number of overnight stays (19%) in hotels. They were followed by tourists from Italy and Germany.
They were followed by private accommodations - rented rooms and dwellings. Tourists generated more than a million overnight stays (29% of all). This was 7% more than a year ago. Domestic tourists contributed a tenth of these overnight stays, while the largest numbers of them were generated by tourists from Germany and Czechia.
In camping sites, 22% of all overnight stays (almost 778,000) were generated. Compared with last year, the number went up by 4%. Domestic tourists contributed about a fifth of all overnight stays, while the largest number was generated by tourists from Germany the Netherlands and Italy.
In August, almost 187,000 permanent bed places were available to tourists.
In the first eight months of the year, 6% more tourist overnight stays year-on-year
From January to August, tourists generated more than 5.4 million arrivals and more than 14.1 million overnight stays - both 6% more year-on-year. The most visited municipalities were Ljubljana, Piran and Bled.
Foreign tourists generated 77% of all overnight stays or more than 10.8 million, 8% more year-on-year. The largest number of tourists came from Germany, followed by Italy and Czechia. The most visited municipalities were Ljubljana, Piran and Bled.
Domestic tourists generated over 3.2 million overnight stays, 2% more than in the same period last year. The most visited municipalities were Piran, Izola and Brežice.
Interesting fact: On the public holiday the most visited municipality was Ljubljana
According to the experimental statistics Daily tourism flow in Slovenia, on the public holiday, 15 August, more than 51,000 tourist arrivals in accommodation establishments were recorded, the largest number in Ljubljana, Piran, Bohinj and Bled. On this day, the largest number of tourists came from Germany, Italy and Czechia, while domestic guests generated 15% of all arrivals.
The highest number of tourist arrivals in the observed month was recorded on Saturday, 1 August, namely about 54,000.
