Capital Projects wins 2026 Local Streets and Roads Project Award

In a press release by the League of California Cities, the City of West Sacramento has won a 2026 Local Streets and Roads Project Award for the federally funded Citywide Safety and Signal Improvement Project through the Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP). The project focused on reducing collisions and improving safety for motorists and pedestrians at more than twenty high-risk locations citywide.

Guided by the City's Systemic Safety Analysis Report, improvements prioritized key corridors including West Capitol Avenue, Jefferson Boulevard, Harbor Boulevard, and Sacramento Avenue. The scope was refined to maximize safety benefits and align with future infrastructure efforts.

Major improvements included intersection geometric modifications, upgraded signal hardware and pedestrian safety features at signalized intersections, and enhanced pedestrian crossings with refuge islands, curb extensions, ADA upgrades, and Rapid Rectangular Flashing Beacons (RRFBs).

Collectively, these improvements enhance visibility, reduce conflict points, and strengthen pedestrian connectivity throughout the community.
