Fraud Alert! Scammers Targeting Zoning & Variance Applicants.

The City of Norcross is warning residents, businesses and developers about a scam targeting individuals with active zoning and variance applications. Over the past month, at least three Norcross applicants have been contacted by scammers posing as city staff or board members.

These fraudulent emails often include official-looking logos, real staff names and board member names and project details copied from public agenda packets. The messages typically demand payment through wire transfers or fake invoices. Please note:

  • The City of Norcross never requests payment via wire transfer.
  • Official city emails always end with @norcrossga.net.
  • Norcross Boards and Commissions do not issue invoices or send direct payment requests. All invoicing and payments are processed through the city's secure plan review portal, unless a paper copy invoice is requested by the applicant.

If you receive an email that looks suspicious, do not click on links, open attachments or send money. Instead:

  1. Verify the sender's email address carefully.
  2. Contact the City of Norcross directly at 770-448-2122 if you are unsure.
  3. Report the email to Norcross IT and the Norcross Police Department if you believe you've been targeted.

The city is actively working with law enforcement to protect our community, but we need your vigilance as well. Stay alert, Norcross!
