SCO Secretary-General meets with the Secretary of the Party Committee of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region of the PRC

On April 9, 2026, in Nanning, during his visit to the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region (GZAR) of the People's Republic of China, Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Nurlan Yermekbayev held a meeting with Chen Gang, Secretary of the Party Committee of the GZAR.

The Secretary-General, thanking the regional leadership for the invitation and warm reception, noted the significant contribution of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region to the development of multifaceted cooperation within the SCO, including in the areas of trade, tourism, medicine, and interregional ties. Nurlan Yermekbayev highlighted the dynamic development of the artificial intelligence industry, which is being carried out with the active support of the GZAR leadership.

Chen Gang, in turn, briefed the SCO Secretariat delegation on the main indicators of the socio-economic development of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and informed them about the opportunities for implementing joint projects in promising areas of cooperation between the region and the SCO member states.

The parties confirmed their mutual interest in developing cooperation within the SCO, including the possibility of holding Organization events on the territory of the autonomous region.

The meeting took place in a friendly and constructive atmosphere. Following the talks, the Secretary of the Party Committee hosted a celebratory event in honor of the SCO Secretary-General.
