The Iowa City Senior Center (ICSC) has just released its July-August 2026 Program Guide, both online and in print. Registration is open for all classes and events, and you can sign up online at icgov.org/senior/registration or by calling 319-356-5220.
This season's programming reflects the Senior Center's mission to enhance quality of life for older adults by supporting wellness, social connections, community engagement, and lifelong learning. Anyone age 50+ is invited to become an ICSC member, and numerous programs are also open to all ages and do not require membership. All offerings support ICSC's vision to extend social connections and end social isolation for people age 50+.
The latest guide features a diverse mix of arts, movement, enrichment programs, social opportunities, and community partnerships. Some highlights include:
Borrowed Time: A Support Group for People Living with Cancer
This 8-week series offers education and support for people living with a cancer diagnosis. We focus on living a full life today, understanding one's response to diagnosis and treatment, and learning healthy coping skills. Senior Center membership is required. When: 1-2:30 p.m. Wednesdays, July 8 - Aug. 26.
Gallery Opening: Natural Perspectives - Light, Landscape & Season
A vibrant exhibition featuring photography and painting by Iowa artists Tyler Baird, Chip Ross, and Theresa Wink. Presented in the Historic Post Office Gallery's Main Gallery at ICSC, this exhibition encourages visitors to slow down, notice more deeply, and rediscover the extraordinary beauty woven into everyday places. When: 5-7 p.m. Friday, July 17.
What Families Wish They Knew Before Starting Senior Care
Navigating senior care can feel overwhelming, especially when you don't know what you don't know. This presentation walks through the key decisions families face, including when to consider home care vs. senior living, how to avoid common mistakes, and how to make the most of long-term care insurance benefits. When: 11 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Aug. 12.
DeGowin Blood Center Drive
ICSC will host a UI DeGowin blood drive. All blood collected will be used to support patients at UI Health Care and Stead Family Children's Hospital. When: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 25.
