PHILADELPHIA - Starting Sunday, Feb. 1, airline passengers flying out of Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) who do not have REAL ID compliant identification or another acceptable form of ID will have the option to pay a $45 fee to use TSA ConfirmID, the Transportation Security Administration's new modernized identity verification system.
TSA ConfirmID is an option for travelers who have lost their ID or do not have a REAL ID, passport, or other approved identification. For a $45 fee, TSA ConfirmID enables passengers to begin the identity verification process before reaching the security checkpoint. The process typically takes 10-15 minutes, though it may require 30 minutes or more in some cases, and the verification is valid for 10 days.
Passengers are encouraged to visit the TSA ConfirmID program fee siteand pay the $45 fee prior to travel. A printed or electronic receipt must be presented to the Transportation Security Officer at the checkpoint.
"While most travelers provide acceptable identification, it is our responsibility to confirm that passengers are who they claim to be. TSA ConfirmID is vital for strengthening security and protecting travelers nationwide, ensuring the safety of our skies and transportation systems," said Carrie Hazel, TSA's deputy federal security director for Pennsylvania. "Those who do not want to pay the $45 fee still have time to get their REAL ID compliant driver's license or another acceptable form of ID."
Acceptable forms of ID include:
Currently, more than 94 percent of Pennsylvania passengers already use REAL ID or other acceptable identification, matching the national average. Passengers who do not use an approved form of ID should expect increased wait times when TSA ConfirmID goes into effect.
