Governor Polis Releases Statement on the Passing of Former Colorado Supreme Court Justice Melissa Hart, Announces Flags Will Be Lowered On Day Of Memorial Once Selected

DENVER - Today, Governor Polis released the following statement on the passing of former Colorado Supreme Court Justice Melissa Hart. The Governor also announced that flags will be lowered to half-staff on the day of her memorial once that date is selected.

"I am devastated to hear about former Colorado Supreme Court Justice Melissa Hart's passing. Justice Hart served on Colorado's highest bench from 2017 to 2025 and will be remembered by her fellow justices, colleagues, and all who knew her as a fierce fighter for the rule of law and compassionate judge. Justice Hart was a leader in family law and access to justice, and I am grateful for her service to the state and her judicial commitment to fairness and equality. My thoughts are with her family, friends, and colleagues, during this difficult time. I am ordering flags to fly at half-staff on the day of Justice Hart's memorial," said Governor Polis.
