Everyone knows TLU's Blumberg Memorial Library is the place to go for books, research materials, printers, and lots more. But there's also an art gallery housed on the library's first floor: the Blumberg Gallery. Exhibits change periodically, so it pays to stop in regularly.
Currently, there are two exhibits on display in the gallery as part of TLU's celebration of Latinx Heritage Month. The first is Echoes of Tradition: Unveiling Indigenous Voices and Visions, by National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Our Town Artist in Residence Ruben Esquivel. Esquivel, an Austin native, has connections to Seguin, having spent time here as a child. The work represents a journey through the Coahuiltecan Creation Story.
The second exhibit, La Tierra Habla: A celebration of Mexican American Art, Life, and Enduring Spirit includes works created by NEA Our Town Artist in Residence Deborah Kuetzpal Vásquez. Kuetzpal Vásquez is a multi-media Chicana artist from San Anto, Texas.
"One of the best things about working at the library is having vibrant rotating exhibits right outside my office door," said E-Resources Librarian Nate Aubin. "Everyone should take the opportunity to see these exhibits while they can."
The exhibits, which appear courtesy of Teatro De Artes De Juan Seguin, will remain in the library until November 21. There will be an opening reception on Thursday, October 9, from 4-6 p.m. The library is open Monday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m.-9 p.m., Friday, 7:30 a.m.-5 p.m., and Sunday, 2-9 p.m.
