AJC and HALC Welcome Senate Foreign Relations Committee Passage of the Eastern Mediterranean Gateway Act

American Jewish Committee (AJC), the global advocacy organization for the Jewish people, and the Hellenic American Leadership Council (HALC) together welcome the Senate Foreign Relations Committee's passage of the Eastern Mediterranean Gateway Act (S.4443).

S.4443 builds on the Eastern Mediterranean Security and Energy Partnership Act of 2019 (the East Med Act). The East Med Act reinforced frameworks such as the "3+1" strategic partnership among the United States, Greece, Cyprus, and Israel and the Eastern Mediterranean Gas Forum, which brings American, European, and Middle Eastern stakeholders together to construct a rules based order for energy diplomacy in the region. S. 4433 envisions using these Eastern Mediterranean frameworks as the basis to help develop the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC).

AJC and HALC have long worked to strengthen ties among the United States, Greece, Cyprus, Israel, and their neighbors, helping to build a more connected, secure, and stable greater Eastern Mediterranean and beyond. We are encouraged by the growing bipartisan support for this bill and will continue working with Congress to see it signed into law.
