Amazon opens first Canada Disaster Relief hub and bolsters California hub to support wildfire relief efforts
Amazon has opened its first disaster relief hub in Canada-a wildfire-focused facility in Edmonton, Alberta-that will stock more than 180,000 emergency supplies including sifters, heavy-duty gloves, boots, air purifiers, and masks. The new hub joins Amazon's expanded California wildfire facility, which has quintupled its capacity this year ahead of a strong El Niño season. Together, these hubs enable Amazon to deliver donated supplies to front-line nonprofits within hours across North America. Amazon Leo has entered into an agreement with Herotel, South Africa's largest fixed internet service provider, to launch evry-a satellite internet service expected to debut commercially in 2027. This marks Amazon Leo's first such agreement in Africa. Evry will connect millions of South Africans in rural areas, farms, and small towns where traditional infrastructure remains impractical and costly. Herotel, which serves over 350,000 active customers across more than 550 towns, will leverage its existing local offices for installation and support.
