Foreign Direct Investment in Latin America and the Caribbean in Light of New U.S. Trade Policy: ECLAC Will Present Updated Figures on June 23

On Tuesday, June 23, at 2:30 p.m. local time in Chile (UTC-4), the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) will release its annual report Foreign Direct Investment in Latin America and the Caribbean 2026, which offers a full overview of the evolution of these flows at the global, regional and national level.

The document's main findings will be presented at a hybrid press conference (in-person and online) led by the institution's Executive Secretary, José Manuel Salazar-Xirinachs, speaking from the United Nations regional organization's headquarters in Santiago, Chile.

In a new global context, the first chapter of this report includes the amount of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) received by each country and subregion in 2025, along with the main trends seen regarding countries of origin, FDI components, destination sectors, mergers and acquisitions, and other indicators. It also analyzes the behavior of Latin American transnational companies, known as translatinas.

The second chapter, entitled "Foreign Direct Investment in the Region in Light of the United States' New Trade Policy," explores the relationship between trade and FDI; examines the exposure of investments in the region to the changes in U.S. tariff policy; addresses the role of investment promotion agencies and the institutional challenges they face in the current context; and offers policy recommendations.
