More than five years after the drug-related robbery/fatal shooting of Ibrahim Oruc, 48, inside a short-term rental on Joseph Avenue, three men have been indicted on murder charges.
Members of a U.S. Marshal's Fugitive Task Force today apprehended suspect David C. Travis, 37, in Franklin, Kentucky. He's being held in the Simpson County Jail pending his return to Nashville. Co-defendant James Fletcher, 45, is currently incarcerated in an Oklahoma prison. Co-defendant Doneko Southichak, 46, was deported to Laos last May.
On June 1, 2020, Oruc, of California, was one of several men who met at the short-term rental. During a confrontation, Oruc was reportedly ordered to the ground at gunpoint and then shot as he tried to run away. Others present took several bags from the location and fled. Oruc died at Vanderbilt Medical Center three weeks later.
Recent investigation by Cold Case Unit Detective Curtis Hafley, which included the use of DNA evidence and cell phone data, led to the indictment of the three men.
