Bettendorf to Celebrate National Bike Month in May with Important Messages, Special Events

May 1, 2026 - The City of Bettendorf is celebrating National Bike Month in May and Bike to Work Week May 11-17 by encouraging residents to hop on their two-wheelers and explore our community in a whole new way!

Important Messages
Before you go, the Bettendorf Police Department and Bettendorf Parks & Recreation Department collaborated on a video to share some safety tips for biking on our trails and sidepaths. You can view the video above or on the City's YouTube Channel.

Bettendorf Parks & Recreation is also posting important information on biking around Bettendorf in its Trails Tuesday videos, which can be viewed every week on YouTube or by following @bettparksandrec on Facebook and Instagram.

Special Events
From Monday, May 11 through Saturday, May 16, Bettendorf Transit is joining Davenport Citibus and MetroLINK in honoring your bike as your fare (as bike rack space permits) on its buses. Click here to see schedules and routes.

On Wednesday, May 13 from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m., the Bettendorf Parks & Recreation Department is partnering with the Downtown Bettendorf Organization to host a pit stop along the Mississippi River Trail at Leach Park (100 12th Street). There will be free breakfast and drinks for cyclists and supporters of bike-friendly communities. This is part of the Quad Cities Bicycle Club's five-day event, which also includes pit stops in Moline, Davenport, and Rock Island. Click here to see the full schedule.

Additional Information
Bettendorf has 7 miles of bike lanes, 14 miles of recreational trails, and 17 miles of separated trails. Cyclists can view all of them and plan their path by visiting our Bettendorf Trails webpage.

The City of Bettendorf's investments in its trails have earned it a spot on the League of American Bicyclists' Bicycle Friendly Communities List, along with 500+ communities across the country. In 2023, the League renewed the City's bronze-level status, recognizing its commitment to creating transportation and recreational resources that benefit users of all ages and abilities while encouraging healthier and more sustainable transportation choices.

The Bettendorf Parks & Recreation Department also has a group of employees, business leaders, educators, and residents who are focused on supporting and improving its trails for all users. The Bettendorf Trails Committee meets the 3rd Tuesday of the month. Those interested in joining can click here.
