Adams Named to Sixth Class of SUNY EOP Student Ambassadors

Stony Brook University senior Sebastian Adams (back row, fourth from left) was named to the sixth class of SUNY's Arthur O. Eve Educational Opportunity Program Student Ambassadors.

Stony Brook University senior Sebastian Adams is one of 20 State University of New York (SUNY) students named to the sixth class of the Arthur O. Eve Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) Student Ambassadors.

The EOP Student Ambassadors serve as mentors to other students, encourage high school seniors to enroll, help build on the established student support network for EOP students across the SUNY system and advise SUNY on ways to keep strengthening the program.

SUNY EOP Ambassadors are EOP students in good academic standing who are enrolled full time for the Fall 2026 semester. The student ambassadors will receive stipends of $2,500 per semester towards their financial aid package to carry out this role.

"For 60 years, SUNY's Educational Opportunity Program has supported tens of thousands of students as they work to achieve academic excellence and upward mobility," said SUNY Chancellor John B. King Jr. in announcing the ambassador class on October 7. "EOP students are models of student success and some of our most effective ambassadors for the affordable excellence SUNY provides. SUNY is proud to recognize the hard work of our EOP students and provide them opportunities to support their peers during their academic journey."

Sebastian Adams

Adams is a psychology major with a specialization in marketing who intends to pursue a Master's degree in Higher Education Administration with a goal to support future generations of college students throughout their careers outside of the classroom. He is an EOP scholar who has committed every summer to EOP as a residential coach since his time as an incoming first-year within the rigorous EOP Summer Academy. Adams has also taken on success coaching for first-year EOP Students. His work within numerous organizations on campus, focused on campus and student life, has left a major positive impact on the campus community.

Adams is involved in the Undergraduate Student Government, serving as vice president of student life during the 2025-2026 academic year. That included direct oversight over numerous major campus traditions, each with record breaking attendance, showing his commitment to fostering a diverse, inclusive and exciting environment for the Stony Brook. He is a founding member of the Sigma Chi Zeta Fraternity, Associate Chapter at Stony Brook. He has dedicated his time at SUNY to fostering community and cultivating a fun and inclusive campus community through numerous outlets.

"Sebastian is the kind of student leader who truly understands what it means to give back," said Pamela Matzner, EOP/AIM director at Stony Brook. "Amongst all of his involvement and leadership at EOP and across Stony Brook University, what stands out most to me is the way he pours into our incoming freshmen during EOP Summer Academy. He takes the time to encourage them, share his experiences, answer their questions, and help them see what is possible for themselves. He leads by example and inspires others to see themselves as future leaders. I am so proud that SUNY selected Sebastian as an EOP state-wide Ambassador, and I know he will bring that same heart, energy, and commitment to representing EOP students across SUNY."

To serve as student ambassadors, students were nominated by EOP directors, and a committee comprised of SUNY system administrators selected each ambassador based on their demonstrated leadership, potential as a peer mentor, and commitment to the program.

"SUNY institutions have long been seen as gateways to boundless opportunities for students across New York. In partnership with the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP), families that look to SUNY gain not only an affordable option for higher education, access to state-of-the-art colleges and universities, but also a sense of belonging and community," said Stony Brook alumnus and State Assembly Speaker Carl E. Heastie '90. "Today's announcement of EOP's sixth cohort of student ambassadors showcases the program's success and instills in these students the concept of lifting as you climb, becoming mentors to others. Congratulations to the 2026 class of EOP ambassadors and thank you to SUNY Chancellor King for continuing the legacy of Arthur O. Eve."
