2025 Babylon - New generation award for best student translation

On 25 September 2025, the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of North Macedonia in partnership with the Faculty of Philology "Blazhe Koneski" - Skopje presented the 2025 BABYLON - New generation Award for Best Student Translation. The event took place at the Europe House in Skopje on the occasion of the European Day of Languages.

The BABYLON Award aims to support young translators in North Macedonia and emphasize the importance of quality in literary translations. The competition is open for university students who can apply with a translation of a literary work from any of the 24 official languages of the European Union into any of the languages spoken in the country.

This year's award was presented to Jana Sekuloska for her translation of the short story "Mothers were all the same" (by Joseph O'Connor) from English into Macedonian language by the EU Ambassador Michalis Rokas. The award consists of a study trip related to translation as well as publication of the winning translation in the Annual collected works of the Faculty of Philology "Blazhe Koneski" - Skopje.
