Chris Bonjean leaves the Court after a decade of service

Christopher Bonjean, Chief Communications Officer for the Illinois Supreme Court's Office of Communications and Public Information, is leaving his role after 10 years of service. His last day is August 17.

Bonjean was appointed in 2016 under Chief Justice Rita B. Garman to head a newly reorganized communications operation for the Court. During his tenure, the Court began the switch to mandated electronic filing, launched the Judicial Branch's first newsletters in Illinois Courts Connect and the Media Monitor, completed a website redesign, redesigned the Annual Report of the Illinois Courts, and underscored a commitment to transparency through new extended media coverage policies and forms, providing free public access to reviewing court documents through reSearchIL, an increased social media presence, and more.

"Chris has done an outstanding job to elevate and modernize the role of Chief Communications Officer by focusing on proactive strategic communications, branding, and amplifying all the great work that our Illinois state courts do every day. While he will be greatly missed, I wish him all the best for the next chapter," Marcia Meis, Director of the Administrative Office of Illinois Courts, said.

Bonjean previously worked for the Illinois State Bar Association and the Chicago Sun-Times.

"It has been an honor to serve the Illinois Judicial Branch for the past decade," Bonjean said. "I appreciate the trust placed in me and for the opportunity to help elevate transparency, strengthen public understanding of the courts, and support the dedicated professionals who uphold justice across our state every day."
