Ascension Saint Agnes Partners with Community to Help Baltimore Students Start the School Year Strong

Local students and families received support ahead of the new school year as Ascension Saint Agnes and local partners hosted the 5th annual Back-to-School Bash on Saturday, August 15, at Saint Joseph's Monastery.

The event served 162 families, including 324 children and 207 adults, for a total of 531 attendees. More than350 backpacks filled with school supplies were distributed to students to help them prepare for the school year and succeed in the classroom.

Students from Baltimore International Academy West, Beechfield Elementary/Middle School, North Bend Elementary/Middle School and Violetville Elementary/Middle School also received free uniform shirts as part of the event.

Families also had access to health education resources, food and activities. The event brought together local organizations, volunteers and families to celebrate students and provide support beyond the classroom.

"This event is about more than distributing school supplies. It is about reminding students they have people and organizations supporting them," saidLesley Wallace, Vice President, Population Health, Ascension Saint Agnes. "When students have the tools they need to learn and grow, they are better prepared for success."

The Back-to-School Bash was supported by Ascension Saint Agnes associates, volunteers and community organizations. School supply donations from associates helped provide many of the materials distributed to students.

This event was also made possible through the support of our valued community partners, St. Joseph's Monastery Parish and My Brother's Keeper.

This event is part of Ascension Saint Agnes' ongoing work with partners across the region to support the health, education and well-being of families.
