Raney to retire after 38 years at Boise State

After a distinguished career spanning 38 years at Boise State, Suzan Raney will retire July 31.

Raney joined the university in 1988, when computers were not yet standard office equipment. She vividly recalls the era of the electric typewriter, specifically using them to prepare travel authorizations in triplicate. Making a correction was a colorful process involving specific shades of liquid whiteout (yellow, green, blue and white) to match the different forms. Her introduction to university computing came via a Macintosh SE with a 9-inch display, an all-in-one machine whose power and capabilities left her in awe.

Raney's professional journey at Boise State took her through various essential roles across campus. She began her career in the Student Teaching Office in the College of Education before moving to positions in the Criminal Justice Department, the College of Social Sciences and Public Affairs dean's office, and the Venture College. She is concluding her tenure as the Assistant to the Dean in the College of Education.

A devoted member of the Bronco community, Suzan is a regular fixture at football and basketball games, always ready to cheer on the Broncos. While she has cherished her decades at Boise State, she is eager to begin a new chapter focused on family and personal interests.

Her retirement plans include spending quality time with her granddaughter, her dog, and her circle of family and friends. An avid traveler, she looks forward to exploring new destinations and intends to remain active in the field of education by substitute teaching in her spare time.
