Tradeweb Exchange-Traded Funds Update – October 2025

The following data is derived from trading activity on the Tradeweb Markets institutional European- and U.S.-listed ETF platforms.

EUROPEAN-LISTED ETFs

Total traded volume

Trading activity on the Tradeweb European ETF marketplace amounted to EUR 72.8 billion in October. The percentage of transactions and notional volume completed via Tradeweb's Automated Intelligent Execution (AiEX) tool registered at 94% and 30%, respectively.

Adam Gould, Global Head of Equities at Tradeweb, said: "Our European ETF platform delivered another strong performance in October, with the combination of broad client-base growth, increased ETF adoption and our automated rules-based RFQ trading protocol driving deeper liquidity and greater efficiency for the market."

Volume breakdown

In October, equities remained the most actively-traded ETF asset class, comprising 63% of the overall platform flow. In commodity-based funds, 'sells' exceeded 'buys' by 42 percentage points, whereas equity- and fixed income-based products saw net buying by 18 and 8 percentage points, respectively.

North America Equities reclaimed its spot as the most heavily-traded ETF category during the month, generating over EUR 15 billion in monthly volume, after Global Equities briefly topped the table in September.

Top ten by traded notional volume

In October, the two most actively-traded ETFs were commodity-based, with the remainder consisting of equity- and fixed income-based funds. The Invesco Physical Gold ETC and the iShares Physical Gold ETC, which both offer exposure to the performance of the gold spot price, placed first and second, while the iShares Core S&P 500 UCITS ETF came in third.

U.S.-LISTED ETFs

Total traded volume

Total consolidated U.S. ETF notional value traded in October reached USD 91.3 billion.

Adam Gould, Global Head of Equities at Tradeweb, said: "October was the third best-performing month on record for our U.S. institutional ETF platform, with volumes increasing by 59.6% year-over-year, as clients increasingly rely on streamlined, scalable execution.Meanwhile, the percentage of transactions executed via AiEX reached an all-time high of 51%."

Volume breakdown

As a percentage of total notional value, equities accounted for 54% and fixed income for 39%, with the remainder comprising commodity and specialty ETFs.

Top ten by traded notional volume

In a reversal of September's trend, seven of the top ten ETFs by traded notional volume in October were fixed income-based, with the remainder being equity-based. The iShares US Treasury Bond ETF, which last appeared in the top three in March 2024, placed first. Meanwhile, the JP Morgan BetaBuilders Europe ETF and Vanguard 500 Index Fund ETF came in second and third place, respectively.
